Statistical analysis of the best GIS interpolation method for bearing capacity estimation in An-Najaf City, Iraq

Abstract The presence of an economical solution to predict soil behaviour is essential for new construction areas. This paper aims investigate the ultimate interpolation method predicting bearing capacity An-Najaf city-Iraq based on field investigation information. Firstly, engineering was calculated in-site N-SPT values using dynamic loading 464 boreholes with depths 0–2 m, Meyerhof formula. data then were classified and imported GIS program apply methods. Four deterministic two geostatistical methods applied produce six maps. statistical analyses performed methods: common cross-validation by coefficient determination ( R 2 ) root mean square error (RMSE), where results showed that ordinary kriging (OK) least RMSE highest . These confusing so, backward elimination regression (BER) procedure gain definite result. BER show among all methods, IDW optimal most significant method. result shows EBK best in our case than OK also indicate no general cases datasets type; therefore, must be each dataset.
